Crackdown on Illegal Gambling: Panchkula Police Arrest 68 at Kalka Casino Raid
In a significant law enforcement operation, the Panchkula police, in collaboration with the crime branch and the anti-narcotics cell, conducted a joint raid at a casino located within The Divine — Once in Nature hotel in Kalka, resulting in the arrest of 68 individuals for engaging in illegal gambling activities.
Details of the Operation
The coordinated raid, which took place after police received actionable intelligence, was led by Inspector Nirmal Singh from the detective staff. Authorities reported that the operation found numerous attendees actively gambling at the venue, prompting swift action from the police.
Organizers and Illegal Activities
Among those arrested, the police identified several key organizers linked to the event. The individuals cited include Devendra Kumar, also known as Kalu Malik, Sandeep Sharma (alias Sandy), Sohal Khan, Ricky Nanda, Manish Sharma (alias Monu), and Bunty from Karnal. Additionally, the hotel owner, Ratan Bansal, along with the manager, Rajendra from Jind, were also detained.
According to police officials, the gathering was not only unauthorized but also lacked the necessary licenses or permits for serving alcohol or operating a casino. This further compounds the legal issues under which the organizers may face severe penalties.
Police Findings
During the raid, law enforcement officers seized a substantial amount of evidence that underscored the illegal nature of the operation. Items recovered included 22 bottles of liquor and a total of Rs. 3.69 lakh in cash. Furthermore, the police impounded 20 vehicles, which were registered in various states including Haryana, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.
Legal Action
In light of these findings, the police have initiated legal proceedings by registering a case against the individuals involved under several sections of the Haryana Excise (Amendment) Act, specifically sections 61(1)(A) and 72(C), as well as sections 3 and 4 of the Gambling Act at the Kalka police station. These charges highlight the serious legal ramifications faced by those operating such illicit activities.
This operation marks a notable success for the Panchkula police in combating illegal gambling and enforcing law and order in the region, signaling a stringent approach towards illicit activities in hospitality venues.
